Adiós·Goodbye and Adiós Goodbye

A Costa Rican singer-songwriter and practising lawyer who writes the words and the music, sings, and produces his own songs. He released his first album, «La Virgen de Nazaret», on 31 July 2026; on 3 October 2026 he put out «Adiós», «Goodbye» and «Adiós Goodbye»; and his second studio album, «Mi Jesús», is due out on 5 December 2026.

Three versions of the same song, released on the same day: «Adiós» is sung in English, «Goodbye» in Spanish, and «Adiós Goodbye» brings them together, one in each ear. All three tell of a whole night in a cantina and last the same: 7 minutes and 11 seconds.

It is a deliberate crossing: each version says goodbye in the other's language. In the third, «Adiós Goodbye», the crossing is resolved: the word you read on the left is the one you hear on the left — the Spanish — and the word on the right is the one you hear on the right — the English.

On headphones. «Goodbye», in Spanish, plays in the left ear and «Adiós», in English, in the right, both complete and at the same time; a violin and the orchestra join them in the centre. On a speaker you hear the two voices blended, and that is not a flaw: it is the nature of the piece.

Because it is another way of hearing the same song. It is not an invention — other artists have done it before — and Larry Hans does not present it as one: it is simply something extra. What it does have is craft: the two versions were rebuilt bar by bar so that they would sound like a single song.

A night in a cantina: a man lies to a bottle, asks the waiter for another and tells his story to the man drinking beside him, while he remembers a woman who would say no when she meant yes. It is a farewell: what hurts is saying goodbye.
