Statement 4 ·
Larry Hans · Costa Rica
On September 1, 2026, eight tracks signed by Larry Hans appeared in the stores, one in each of the eight languages Zarza Radio broadcasts in. Anyone coming from La Virgen de Nazaret suddenly ran into a dance track, and the artist knows exactly how much noise that makes. That is why this statement is called what it is called.
Anyone who listened to the album about Mary and then ran, without warning, into congas, brass and a shouted chorus is owed an explanation; and the first word of that explanation is sorry. Not for the work, which the artist is proud of, but for the order in which it reached their ears. An album about the life of Mary and a commercial radio track have nothing in common, and whoever felt the jolt was right to feel it.
That said, this was not a whim or a change of course: it was a professional commission, and it deserves to be told as one. Zarza Radio is not a neighbourhood station. It is a network broadcasting in the eight languages of zarza.com, speaking to audiences in eight different markets, with eight different ways of listening. The brief was not one song translated eight times. It was eight tracks, each written in its own language, with its own rhyme, slang and local joke: the French one does not say “sounds”, it says the world vibrates; the German one inverts the phrase and puts HERE first; the Japanese one refuses to rhyme on purpose; the Arabic one was written in qafiya, the classical monorhyme.
For Larry Hans it was an honour to accept. Eight powerful tracks, with a story of love and heartbreak inside them — she leaves, the block, the shame, the final call — because a commission can also be written with characters and not only with slogans. The same story happens in eight different cities and in none of them does it sound translated.
And it was done this way for a reason that goes beyond this commission: the point is not to do the minimum possible, but to do everything with excellence. A job like this can be settled, if you like, with a generic backing track and a sung brand on top. It can also be settled by writing eight songs that stand on their own the day nobody remembers what they were made for. The second path was chosen, and that is why they carried the same production care, the same mastering and the same respect as anything else this artist has signed.
The scale of the project called for it. A music network that is born speaking eight languages at once is coherent with what music is going to be on the eve of 2030, and you do not hand a project like that half your craft.
In his own words
Translated from the Spanish original, reproduced below.
If it jarred anyone, I genuinely apologise; I understand it, and I would rather say it myself before I am asked.
But let the other thing be clear: I was asked for eight songs for a radio station that speaks to the world in eight languages, and I do not know how to hand in half a job. I made them as if they were mine, because they are. And that is that: nothing else is coming behind them.
Statements by the artist gathered for this release on September 1, 2026.
None of this changes what was said here when the album’s week was closed. It stands, word for word: no further recordings by Larry Hans are expected. The promise he owed to Mary was kept, and kept in style; the artist’s time still belongs to the law and to his family. Eight tracks on commission are not a career, nor a comeback, nor the announcement of anything.
What this site is — and the only thing it means to be — is a historical record of what has played on the world’s airwaves in the voice of the artist, the lawyer, the man who was not afraid to sing to the world in eight languages.
