Single 1 of 8
Larry Hans
A-QUÍ
The commission
Zarza Radio broadcasts in eight languages and commissioned one track for each. The point was not to do the minimum, but to do everything with excellence: that is why these are eight songs that stand on their own, with the same production and the same mastering as anything else this artist has signed. Zarza Radio.
The other seven came out of this one. It rhymes in -ó at the start (llamó, volvió, voz, bloqueó) and in -ir in the verse about her escape, always landing on «aquí». Three of the author’s decisions are deliberately in the lyric: «this hit is my shame», the whispered opening and the sarcastic Ex in the hook. The closing line: «I don’t mourn her, I celebrate her — even the heartbreak danced».
The lyrics stay in the language of the track and are not translated: they are the work.
(Ella se fue y no me llamó)
en un vuelo sin regreso que jamás volvió;
¡Y me bloqueó!
Dice que ya no me escucha, que la página pasó;
puso la radio en francés... y hasta en francés le canto yo;
prende radio en japonés... y me escucha sonreír;
prenda la que prenda, el que suena soy yo;
este hit es mi vergüenza: donde esté, la alcanzó;
(Play, Play, Play)
¡Le di play!
Va dedicada, mi amor:
Zarza punto com...
¡el mundo suena aquí!
(y tú... ya lo sabías)

A break-up told with humour: she leaves on a one-way flight, changes country and language so as not to hear him, deletes the photos and blocks him — and in whatever country she turns on the radio, he is the one playing. The heartbreak is told dancing, not crying.
Because the artist wanted it that way. It is not a slip: it is the word he chose, and the other seven versions rendered it in their own way — “confession” in English, “honte” in French, “Schande” in German, «فضيحتي» (my scandal) in Arabic.
The hook of the track and the point where all eight versions recognise each other. The drop spells out the word “here” in each language: A-QUÍ, RIGHT-HERE, HIER, It is the only thing that sounds the same in all eight, which is why it works as the station’s signature.
Yes. The Spanish one was written first and the other seven came out of it — not as translations but rewritten in their own language. That is why it is called “the master”.
